Procera Networks says its OptimIP 12012 uses a combination of hardware and software applications for internal network security and traffic optimization in enterprise departments, workgroups and branch offices. Combining security, application acceleration and compliance features, Procera executives say their 1U box loaded with software can replace multiple devices in customer nets. "The way customers handle this problem now, they have to get six or seven appliances from vendors" such as Packeteer, Peribit, Expand, Allot and Websense, says Anil Sahai, Procera's executive vice president and CTO. "We can perform multiple functions with one appliance and our software applications." OptimIP is a 1U appliance that sits either next to a firewall, when customers are looking to manage outbound traffic, or next to a router for internal traffic optimization. The appliance can also be used as a switch, filtering and controlling traffic over virtual LANs and subnets. The company offers three flavors of applications that can be purchased in any combination. ProceraWatch, ProceraTap and ProceraApp appliance modules allow network managers to monitor network use, optimize applications and survey network traffic for potential security breaches, respectively. OptimIP uses a technology Procera calls IP-Return, which performs deep-packet inspection at wire-speed for internal network monitoring, mirroring and archiving, and improving application performance. "We can monitor and mirror traffic at very high speeds, which also helps to accelerate traffic," Sahai says. Pricing for Procera's OptimIP 12012 appliance starts around $3,500, and can scale to up to $15,000 depending on the applications purchased and the customer network. All products are available now.
