A Grand Old Party for Bush
The Republican National Convention opens in New York on Monday.
President Bush has been in Crawford, Tex., this week, meeting
with his advisers and polishing his speech. Watch next Thursday
night for Bush's prime-time address unveiling his
much-anticipated vision for a second term.
As in real estate, location is everything for political
conventions. For Republicans, New York may offer more than they
bargained for. One thing's for sure, they'll know where they
stand with the locals who aren't vacating the city. The Post's

Comic Kerry
Kerry got his late-night humor ticket punched last night,
appearing on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show." Host and
political wit Jon Stewart has been highly critical of President
Bush, but seemed smitten with the Democratic candidate. In his
online Media Notes column today, The Post's Howard Kurtz tells
us -

This Week on the Trail
Bush ends his pre-convention seclusion tomorrow, hitting the
campaign trail in New Mexico with stops in Las Cruces,
Albuquerque and Farmington. On Friday, Bush will attend a
late-afternoon rally in Miami. Bush makes three stops Saturday
in the battleground state of Ohio, in Troy, Lima and Maumee. And
Sunday, on the day before the Republican convention begins, he
is scheduled
to attend a rally in Wheeling, W.Va.
Kerry makes a stop tomorrow in Anoka, Minn., before heading to
California to start a two-day West Coast swing. He'll attend a
reception in Santa Monica, Calif., tomorrow night, then make
stops in San Francisco, Everett, Wash., and Seattle on Friday.
His running mate, Sen. John Edwards, will be in New Mexico and
Colorado tomorrow and in St. Louis Friday morning.
Traditionally, candidates take time off from the campaign trail
the week of the opposing party's convention, so it's likely we
won't see much of Kerry or Edwards next week. - Mike Snyder -
