In 1813 Napoleon won the Battle of Dresden.  After his disastrous 
defeat in Russia in 1812, Napoleon raised another army and rejected 
peace proposals from the Allies.  With an army of 400,000 he 
invaded Saxony.  Opposing him was an army of Austrian, Prussian and 
Russian forces numbering 500,000.  At Dresden he won his last 
spectacular victory defeating the Austrians under General 
Schwarzenberg.  However, at the Battle of Leipzig in October he was 
defeated and retreated across the Rhine River.  His empire crumbled 
and in early 1814, three large allied armies invaded Northern 
France and converged on Paris.  On March 31st Paris surrendered 
and thirteen days later Napoleon abdicated.
