Letting Iran Go Nuclear --David Aikman The European Union, which often claims it is better at diplomacy than the United States, last October signed an agreement with Iran confirming that Iran would not develop its nuclear program in ways that could lead to nuclear weapons capability. The Iranians, in effect, told Europe to get lost. It would develop its nuclear program any way it wanted, they said. That wasn't all. In a crudely hinted threat, Iran said its missiles were capable of destroying Israel's own nuclear facilities, at Dimona in the Negev desert, and would do so if Israel interfered with its nuclear program. It's obvious to anyone who is watching Iran closely that the country is working flat out to become a regional nuclear power before internal political developments dilute the aggressive aspirations of the mullahs who rule the country. Don't count on Europe to slow the process down. David Aikman is a veteran journalist and the chairman of Gegrapha.
