With Hurricane Ivan possibly headed to Southwest Florida early next week, the marina manager at Naples Marina & Boating Center said hes keeping some of the preparations he made for Frances in place. It just doesnt make sense to undo everything when it takes 10 to 12 hours to ready his dry storage marina off North Road for a storm, he said. ARCADIA RESIDENTS COMBAT FLOODING IN WAKE OF STORMS Water covers the backwoods country road, and instead of the rolling of tires on dirt, all she can hear is the continuous sloshing of water. And then the thunder. It isnt a great day for Sue Bentley to go grocery shopping. Storm clouds huddle above her and the road to her house is buried beneath 4 feet of water. But Bentley had to fill her refrigerator because she doesnt know when shell get back out again. FEMA GRANT TO PROVIDE AREA WITH LONG-TERM CRISIS COUNSELING Instead of enjoying the Olympics, people in Southwest Florida watched Hurricane Charley. Hurricane Frances stole the spotlight from the Republican National Convention. And before the winds of that storm had even crossed the state, people here were avidly checking the position of Hurricane Ivan. Talk about stress. Mental health professionals say the constant onslaught of storms has not only changed the landscape of Florida, it has virtually eliminated discussion of all other things, giving even the most stable of people the feeling that the disaster will be unending. BUSH COMBINES CAMPAIGN, TOUR OF DAMAGED COMMUNITIES President Bushs trip to Florida on Wednesday was officially scheduled to tour damages wrought by Hurricane Frances. Yet with less than two months to go until the presidential election, Bush was also able to get in all the photo opportunities of a campaign event. With $2 billion in federal aid in tow, Bush could tour through the Treasure Coast and other South Florida communities devastated by the storm, doling out food and water to hurricane victims while promising them more help is on the way. EMERGENCY OFFICIALS PREPARE FOR IVANS POSSIBLE ARRIVAL Ivan remained a Category 4 hurricane Wednesday as it inched closer to Florida, sending debris-removal crews and residents scurrying to prepare. Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Wednesday it was too early to determine whether Ivan will threaten Floridas west coast, or the state in general. Ivan is predicted to pass over Jamaica on Friday and possibly hit, or pass near, Cuba on Sunday, hurricane center meteorologist Robert Molleda said. John Kerry are using Iraq to advance their negative campaign tactics as the U.S. military death toll in Iraq tops 1,000. War, it seems, is just another excuse to call the other guy names. No matter how many times Senator Kerry flip-flops, we were right to make America safer by removing Saddam Hussein from power, Bush said Tuesday. The Republican incumbent wants voters to see Kerry as indecisive, even dangerous, certain to waffle on national security as well as domestic policy if he becomes president. Thats what were here for, Bush said, working shoulder-to-shoulder with brother Jeb, Floridas governor, as he hoisted supplies into a line of waiting cars.
