EMAILS AND QUESTIONS FROM NOTARIES

Dear Victoria: I received your notice that the notary book was now out of print and
replaced with a new revised one. Why did you replace the book? It was perfect just
the way it was and I treasure mine dearly. (SW)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA RING

First of all the information inside the new revised 2nd edition DID NOT CHANGE from
the original. As a writer I assumed that everyone understood what revised 2nd
edition meant. I apologize for making this assumption and have decided to publish
the following information to help everyone understand the difference.

When Dr. Adkins published a revised edition of his diet book, he didnt change the
words inside the original book and rewrite a new one. He only added a few extra pages
and republished it as a revised edition. This is standard procedure for the
publishing industry. Just like software companies publish upgrades to their software.
In many cases, the changes are often so minor that users wait for the next upgrade
before they purchase it. The software company DOES NOT design a new software program.
They just enhance what already exists.

In my case, the guy who designed the yellow book cover for the original notary book
quit working for Gom Publishing. He claimed that since he designed the cover he held
the copyright to the design and I was prevented from printing any more books. Because
the notary book sells so well and I had about 42 orders backed up with no books to
fill the orders, I had to act quickly or be forced to issue refunds.

I hired a graphic designer to come over to the office and spend about 2 hours training
me in the operation of graphic design software. Within a few hours I was able to
redesign the front cover of the notary book. Now -- no one will ever be able to claim
copyright infringement on the front cover of my book because I designed the new one
myself. I will never have to change the book again. What a relief! Also, to comply
with copyright law I had to purchase a new ISBN number and Library of Congress number
and replace the old ISBN number through all the major distributors. It has been a
rough couple of weeks implementing all these changes in such a short period of time
so believe me. If I was not forced to change the front cover, the revised 2nd
edition would not exist.

And while I was in the middle of all these changes I decided to fix a few typos and
add a few pages to the original book. One change I made was with the Special Bonus
Report that used to be included as a separate print-out with the original book orders.
This Special Bonus Report cost money and time to print, collate and staple -- so I
decided to include the information inside the book and eliminate this additional
overhead expense. I also found some more questions and answers from notaries that
were published in The Notary News that I added to the back section and I also updated
Page 125 by replacing that section with the Special Insiders Report that was sold
exclusively to subscribers a couple of weeks ago

So please do not think that the revised 2nd edition of the notary book is that much
different from the original. If you purchased the original paperback you now have a
collectors item. The book has been pulled out of publication through the main
distribution houses and is no longer available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
However, as you can understand now that does NOT mean the information is out of
print. The only real major change was the redesign of the front cover.

I sincerely hope this long explanation will help the 150 or so people who emailed me
about this subject to understand that revised 2nd edition only means that minor
changes were made to a book. If a book is completely rewritten, they will publish it
under a new title completely. As you can see, the title of the notary book has not
changed because it is the same material. Bottom line: If you already purchased How to
Start, Operate and Market a Freelance Notary Signing Agent and the cover is yellow,
you do not need to purchase the revised 2nd edition unless you just want a copy with
the new front cover.

Victoria. Please don't use my name but I wanted to give a testimony to the bankruptcy
business. I am also a signing agent and have been very appreciative of all you have
contributed to this industry. You helped me through our bankruptcy in 2003 and it went
smooth as I could ever expect it to be. You were very thorough with us in the
paperwork and there was no problem filing or during our hearing. I was very impressed
and it was such a relief from the stress of having to file in the first place. I just
wanted to voice that and don't mind you using this as long as my name is not
disclosed. (Name withheld)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA

Thank you so much for allowing me to publish your email. I consider it an honor that
something I said or did had an influence on you to help you start a business. Please
keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

For those of you interested in finding out more about my new book, How to Start a
Bankruptcy Forms Processing Service, go to http://www.50statenotary.com/bankruptcybook/

Victoria: I really enjoy your website and weekly newsletter! I have been doing loan
signings for a couple months and am noticing that more and more companies are going
with email documents. I currently have a laser printer but it doesn't have the dual
paper trays. Do you have a suggestion for that type of laser printer? Also, does the
dual paper tray not only hold legal and letter size paper, but is it able to tell when
to use which type of paper? I have previously printed out 89 page PDF files that were
literally every other page a different paper size. What is the best machine that you
have found or heard about that is able to print out the correct sizes with just one
push of the button? I greatly appreciate your help! (TC)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA

Every laser printer has different functions. Since I dont know what type of laser
printer you have it is difficult to give you specific guidance.

However, every laser printer I have seen has a manual feeder tray. This is where you
can insert different size paper (legal and letter), mailing labels, envelopes, etc.
Look at the front of your printer and see if it has a manual tray. If not, look in
your printers instruction manual and see where the manual tray is located and try
using that for the legal-size pages. Or, if you are in a hurry, you could print all
the pages on legal-size paper through the manual feeder tray -- which I have done on
several occasions.

Victoria. I have signed up with all the companies in your Nationwide Company
Directory and followed up with a telephone call but I have not received one call for
work. I tell the companies that I am a newly commissioned notary with no experience
but I am willing to learn. Why am I not getting any work? (PL)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA RING

You have already defined the answer to your problem. Why would you call a company and
tell them you are a newly commissioned notary? Thats the same thing as a vacuum
cleaner salesman walking up to a customer and saying I dont know anything about this
vacuum cleaner. In fact, I dont ever use one. But I think you should buy it. Do
you think the salesman would sell many vacuum cleaners? I dont think so.

You need to convince that mortgage, title or signing company that you are the most
responsible, most reliable and most trustworthy notary in the world and they need to
use your services or their company will be missing out on a great person. Instead of
saying I am a newly commissioned notary jot down some of your previous experience
that is related to the real estate industry. Then you could say something like this
instead: I am a notary public commissioned in the state of Nevada (or wherever). I
have been involved in several loan closings with the attorney I worked for and am very
interested in working with your company as a notary signing agent.

Doesnt this sound more saleable than your original method?

NOTE TO NOTARIES: If you are not getting enough signings assignments you are not
marketing yourself properly. There are millions of different ways to market yourself.
You just need to locate your marketing problem and fix it. But dont expect overnight
miracles. The effects of your marketing efforts are often not realized for several
months after you implement them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Victoria. I have received a lot of encouragement from the discussion boards
as well as your encouraging response, and I *really* appreciate it! :-) I can't
believe I did it with just the self-training" I did! (e.g., reading, Internet
searches, etc.) I have to thank you, personally, for your wonderful book! It was
your thorough explanation of things that helped me get through my first signing
ALONE! You did an EXCELLENT job when writing that book. Thank you SO much! :-) I
am actually looking forward to my next assignment. At first, I wasn't so sure if this
was for me, but I'm going to stick with it like everyone else did and put all my fears
at the foot of the cross. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! (MB)

RESPONSE FROM VICTORIA RING

It should be me who is thanking you. Not everyone who reads the notary book picks up
the tools and uses them. You deserve most of the credit because you implemented the
tools. Keep up the good work and keep me posted as to how you are progressing.

NOTE TO NOTARIES: If you have not ordered your copy of How to Start, Operate and
Market a Freelance Notary Signing Agent Business go to
http://www.50statenotary.com/book This book has already been called The ABCs of
Loan Signings by real estate professionals. If you are serious about really making
this business work, the information in this book will skyrocket your income.

And if you have already purchased a copy of the notary book and already know the value
of the information it contains I have established a direct link with the printer so
that I can provide discounted prices on quantity orders. This is another way to make
extra money reselling the notary book. Prices vary depending on the quantity you
want to order, so go to http://www.50statenotary.com/book/index1.html (scroll down
near the bottom of the page) and review the options. Or, call me at 614-491-9831 if
you would like pricing on a specific quantity that is not listed.

There are not very many authors who offer the opportunity to sell their books at
discounted prices so that others can make a profit. Most authors prefer to sell the
books exclusively so they get the entire profit. However, because I believe the
information contained in the notary book is so beneficial in helping others, I am
offering quantity discounts and the opportunity to share in the profits of the book
with me.
