Beyond The News -- A Daily Commentary From Salem Communications September 15, 2004
A Test of Our Nation's Resolve --Hugh Hewitt I had the joy of broadcasting live from the Republican Convention in New York City. The event itself was amazing, but no amount of theatrics should overshadow the significance of this upcoming election. Some of the most respected political analysts have pointed out how the 2004 election finds the nation facing the starkest of choices since 1968, 1972--or even 1864, when the nation's resolve was tested over the ongoing Civil War. That is the largest single reason why this election looms so large: our nation's resolve has been tested yet again. 9/11/2001 was an act of war. Though war had actually been declared on us long before, 9/11 forced us to acknowledge it and choose whether or not to wage it. When I interviewed Bush's chief political strategist Karl Rove, he highlighted how this is "different kind of war" requiring "us to think and act in a different kind of way ... because it requires such resolve and focus and discipline." So look for resolve and focus and discipline--and make sure to cast your vote to protect our nation's future. Hugh Hewitt is the host of the Hugh Hewitt Show.
