Hi Martha! Thanks for all the lovely comments!  Xan is short for 
Alexander... Alexander is a family name, so we wanted it, but there are lots 
of Alexanders these days, and we didn't want him to be the 5th Alex in his 
class... so it's Xan as in Ale XAN der...  He can change it if he wants when 
he gets older... :-)
