DEMOmobile Goes Moblogging

New applications for mobile phones were the focus of this
year's DEMOmobile conference, with companies showing off
ways of uploading photos from your phone to a Web site,
gathering information wirelessly, and sending video voice
mails. Many of the new applications were designed for the
latest smart phones, specifically those that run Palm OS,
various flavors of Windows Mobile, or Symbian. Many of the
vendors talked about how they were targeting these phones
now because, though they're not as prevalent as other
feature-rich phones, they represent the direction phones
are moving in. Find out more here:

Intel Reveals its Plans at IDF

Nearly 6,000 attendees gathered rich insight into Intel's
near-term and future development plans, products, and
initiatives at the recent annual Fall 2004 Intel Developer
Forum. Numerous third-party products and solutions were also
on display at the Forum's trade show. The keynote addresses
defined the major themes of the gathering; included the
company's vision for the digital home and digital office,
widespread wireless mobility, enhanced computer platform
and Internet security, dual-core processors, WiMAX, remote
collaboration, world-class enterprise computing systems and
management, and mobile gaming and video; and explored the
benefits of virtualization technology. Intel execs also
opened up about the many product delays, apparent direction
changes, and stumblings over the past year. All told, this
IDF show was an informative event, although there was the
customary marketing agenda and lack of specific future
product technical information in most areas. More is

Nokia Announces New Smart Phone

Nokia's smart-phone portfolio got even smarter with the
announcement of the 9300 Communicator, a powerful,
messaging-oriented phone due out early next year. The 9300
is an update to the old 9210 Communicator and a sister to
the new 9500 Communicator, which are both hulking bricks of
phones that unfold into pseudo-mini-laptops. At 5.19" long,
2" wide and 0.8" thick, weighing 5.8 ounces, the 9300
certainly won't be petite, but it will come a lot closer to
handheld comfort than the 9210 and 9500 do. More is

Easier DVDs

Video hobbyists and business users who can't justify the
expense of a high-end DVD-authoring package will want to
consider Ulead's DVD Workshop Express. It delivers much of
the power of high-end authoring packages without their
complexity or cost. Wannabe filmmakers can preview their work
in real time and use the two subtitle and two audio tracks to
add alternative music, languages, and commentaries.. More is
available here:
