UPA knocks POTA, not its teeth
Replacing the POTA and yet underlining that it is serious about tackling terror, the
UPA government has sent to the President its ordinance amending the Unlawful
Activities (Prevention) Act. That ordinance has gone with one on repealing POTA and
the President is expected to clear them today. The ordinance incorporates several key

Invest in us or miss the bus: PM to London
This morning in London, as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh broke bread with the creme de
la creme of Britains business community, Singh quoted British economist John Maynard
Keynes back to its chief protagonists: Keynes said that investment is an act of
faith. I invite you to have faith in India. We have surprised sceptics before, and we
will surprise them again.

Montek to Left: we cant have babus judging each others work
Instead of being defensive about the Lefts attack on outsiders in committees
reviewing the Tenth Plan, the Planning Commission has fired back a counter-question:
Can the panel rely solely on civil servants to review the work of other civil
servants?

In cricket, too, Cong and NCP take on BJP
The presidency of the BCCI has become the latest Congress-BJP battleground. It is also
being seen as a proxy conflict in crickets interminable telecast rights wars. With
Sharad Pawar, Union Agriculture Minister and Mumbai Cricket Association chief,
throwing his hat into the ring Im under pressure from my well-wishers, he told
journalists today the candidacy of Arun Jaitley, BJP general secretary and Delhi and
Districts Cricket Association chief, seems less secure.
