Good morning ,

Today is Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004. The Tucson weather forecast calls for a sunny day

Here's what's new on StarNet, the online service of the Arizona Daily Star:

Copper unions continuing work without contract
Negotiators for Asarco and its unions met Monday and yesterday in Phoenix in the
latest session of sporadic talks on a proposed contract to replace the one that
expired June 30. The outcome this time was the same as last month: About 800 employees
at two Tucson-area mines, the Hayden smelter and at two facilities in Texas are still
working under the old contract while wielding a threat to strike.

Tricking trucks and cars
In MTV's "Pimp My Ride," Southern Californians send in a tape of their broken-down
car. If the car is sad enough, the generous folks at MTV will revamp the duct-taped
excuse for transportation into a shiny, decked-out penthouse on wheels. The makeovers
usually turn out something that would make even Jay-Z take a second look, but they
include a price tag that's worth a double take, too. But don't despair. For a
relatively small chunk of change - say $300, $500 or $1,000 - you can pull out enough
tricks to catch the attention of the next hottie you pass.
