Microsoft Fixes VPN Flaw
For many corporate Windows users, it was a tough problem.
The new SP2 version of XP broke many corporate VPNs, leaving
remote users out in the cold. But now the problem's fixed,
which makes many telecommuters happy (or sad, as the case
may be). Our story has details about the fix and where to
find it.

Sun Pitches Solaris to Wall Street
The embattled workstation vendor has been in the news a lot
this week. First, the company made a big deal out of its new
financial services offering, showing off new technology in
downtown Manhattan. There's also been a lot of noise about
the open-sourcing of Solaris-and we got Sun exec John
Loiacono on the record about it, and much more.

Inside Amazon's Nifty New Search Engine
Is it a revolution, or is it YABGK? We sent the new A9
search engine into PC Magazine's labs to find out. Our
bottom line is mostly positive-you should check this one
out. But we do have some major privacy concerns. Our story
has details and a slideshow, along with how you can try it
yourself. (P.S.: YABGK=Yet Another Boring Google Killer)

How Much Privacy Do We Need?
Speaking of privacy, how much are we willing to reveal? Eric
Nee explores that question in his new commentary, as he
evaluates the death of a proposed airline screening system
that went too far. Personally, I'd tell you my first pet's
street address if it would keep me safe in the skies, but
perhaps I'm just naturally open. The rest of you might not
agree. For his take on how much privacy is enough, check out
his analysis.

Will DVD Video Cameras Kill MiniDV?
Portable digital video cameras have been shooting on miniDV
tape for years. Both easy to use and cheap, the format just
works. But newer DVD-recordable-based cameras are giving
tape a run for its money. We took a look at Panasonic's
latest DVD-Handicam to see if it rates with tape. Our
details in the review-but you'll definitely want to read
this before buying.

that Mozilla has released its new Firefox browser, we took a
close look at the technology. We've got all of the details
on the new interface and an in-depth comparison with IE.

RSS Blowout
Wondering whether RSS is right for your business? We sent
the whole problem over to the experts at eWEEK Labs, and
they came back with a wonderful special report chock full of
insight, analysis and reviews. For more on whether RSS
works, and where this technology is going, check out their
stories. And if you're thinking RSS is overhyped, Jim Rapoza
would agree. He's worried that overconfidence may doom this
promising technology.

FTC's Bounty Hunter Anti-Sp*m Proposal Makes Sense
It evokes images of the wild, wild West for me. Turn a
spammer in, get a wad of cash. That's what the FTC is
proposing, and our online analyst Wayne Rash thinks it's a
good idea. Now, I've been a big fan of Wayne's ever since we
built systems together back in the '80s ... but I think he,
and the FTC, are overboard on this one. But if you need to
make some spare change, or you want to know what all of the
hoopla is about, check out his column.

A Wave Radio for Your iPod
Do you love those Bose Wave Radios? But maybe you've gone
iPod instead? Well, now you can have the best of both worlds
with the SoundDock-an iPod add-on. If you need better sound
from your music player, check out our story-the picture is
oh-so-cool!

New iMac Ready for Business
That's what David Coursey says, at least. Forget those
oh-so-cute Banana 5000 designs. The new iMac eschews flavors
for iPod-like simplicity and clean lines. Why, then, are all
of the wires missing from the pictures? Coursey's analysis
of a company swinging in the breeze puts the new iMac in a
brand new light.

Social Networking Is Dead
Always early to deliver the eulogy, today PC Mag's John
Dvorak dumps on social networks such as LinkedIn, Orkut and
others. Based on his analysis of the traffic, he thinks
these systems for connecting business associates and friends
are deader than a doorknob. Agree? Disagree? Read his
analysis of yet another technology gone horribly wrong.
