It wants to take a big swing at the world of television too. BT's original motivation for working on DSL in the 1990s was to find a way of sending TV down the phone line (back then, according to rumour, BT scoffed at the idea that anyone would want to send and receive data this way). Now BT is within months of putting its vision into action with a service that will let users download video content over broadband and watch it on the box. A trial is already underway. One hitch, though, is that BT's network ain't fast enough yet. A 1 megabit-per-second connection is the fastest on offer to consumers -- at that rate, the football season could be almost over before you've watched September's Goal Of The Month. This means BT simply has to launch faster ADSL services, so brace yourself for a 2Mbps product. http://newsletters.zdnetuk.cneteu.net/t/34150/1427290/13226/0/ Industry news ------------- Investing in broadband is back.
