Special to PC World:
PC World has teamed up with Lockergnome to bring you even more great
downloads!
http://pcwnl.pcworld.com/t/246127/21421677/79/0/
Each Monday, we will feature downloads hand-picked by Chris Pirillo,
editor of Lockergnome.com.
This week's Lockergnome.com picks:
Subtitle Workshop [1.03M] [Win9x/2k/XP] [FREE]
One of the amusing things about foreign Kung Fu movies is that you
have to read the subtitles to actually understand what in the world
they're saying. In some cases, the translation doesn't quite match up
very well, and you're left wondering why the opponent intends to
attack the other guy with a goldfish. Some questions are better left
unanswered. In your own home movies, you may occasionally use
subtitles to explain key points. If you rely on subtitles, check out
Subtitle Workshop. Subtitle Workshop is a subtitle-editing tool that
supports a majority of the formats that are out there. The controls
are simple to use, and you'll be moving right along with the software
before you know it. The video preview mode lets you view the subtitles
over the video while you're working on it. The software also supports
style tags, which means that you can really make your text stand out.
Create your very own foreign movie with Subtitle Workshop.

IPNetInfo [45K] [Win98/2k/XP] [FREE]
IPNetInfo allows you to easily find all available information about
any given IP address. You can check multiple IP addresses at the same
time, convert host names (if you don't have the IPs) and also paste
e-mail headers and let the program automatically extract the IP
addresses. It will then display the country/city, owner information,
address and any other information returned by the whois server of
RIPE, APNIC, or LACNIC. The results can be exported to text or HTML.

Virtual Dimension [176K] [Win9x/2k/XP] [FREE]
People that multitask usually have to deal with a lot of desktop
clutter. Instead of just running one application at a time, they have
every application that they'll probably use open at the same time.
Some individuals can be effective with this method of doing a bunch of
things at once, but it's definitely not for everyone. Most of us only
have the mental ability to effectively handle one thing at a time. If
you do multitask, you've probably grown tired of so many things taking
up desktop real estate. One of the ways to resolve this problem is to
use virtual desktops. With Virtual Dimension, getting virtual is a
piece of cake. You see, instead of your taskbar (and screen) being
filled to the gills with different stuff, you can manage multiple
desktops to spread the load. The application places a little window in
the upper corner of your screen that tells you which applications are
open on the virtual desktops that you created. To get to the
applications on that desktop, just click it. For example, you could
place your graphic editing apps on one desktop, your browser and
e-mail program on another, and your audio programs on yet another
desktop. You'll only see what's open and running on each desktop.
There are many features that make this program even more powerful, but
you'll just have to download it to experience them. For those of you
who multitask, your application has finally arrived.

Qwik-Fix Pro [1.5M] [Win9x/ME] [FREE]
I came across this entry in the latest Microsoft System Builder
newsletter. I cant really figure out why it doesnt appear in ALL
their mailings, since it offers a ray of hope for people who are at
risk of being hit by worms (most of us). "Proactive Malware Prevention
With Qwik-Fix
In early tests, PivX's Qwik-Fix Pro was successful in preventing
malicious scripted Web pages from forcing Internet Explorer to load
worms or spyware. The tool provides stopgap protection so that your
system doesn't get infected while you're trying to download patches.
Qwik-Fix Pro is free for noncommercial use, and businesses should be
able to buy the corporate version by the time you read this. I've
downloaded and installed the software without a problem. The software
is FREE until the end of October, so DON'T waste any time getting a
copy. Some companies get twitchy around the subject of licenses for
their free products. Either that or they think that you only NEED one
license if you're not an enterprise user. This company is smarter than
that. When you enter your personal info to get to the download page (a
reasonable request, I think), you also get to tell them how many
systems you're trying to protect. Don't get nervous! Even if you DO
have 5 systems at home, it's still free. Now, I have a hardware
firewall, ZoneAlarm Pro 5.1.x, and NAV 2004 Pro in place. I still
wanted this software. I installed it without a single 'gleep!' from
any of this other protection. That means it's really well-mannered.
Please give this a try! Make us all a little safer.

Auction Explorer For eBay [1965K] [Win98/2k/XP] [FREE]
Auction Explorer For eBay is an Internet Explorer add-on that allows
quick searching of eBay from the Explorer Bar. It offers detailed
search features including auction type, category, and postal code, as
well as preferred sorting options and international support. In
addition you can save your searches for one-click access. Auction
Explorer also includes an option to sync your current bids and watches
with your eBay account, however, this feature did not work during our
review (unable to connect to eBay). Even without the sync option, it
makes a handy search assistant for frequent eBay Users.
