******************************************************* TODAY'S eTIP(TM): Kitten Health Concerns: Nothing to Sneeze At All kittens are more susceptible to disease than adult cats, but because orphans don't benefit from their mom's immune system they're leading candidates for upper respiratory infections. As soon as you notice sniffles or sneezing, take your orphan to the vet. You can't begin treatment too soon with kittens so vulnerable. Feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus are the two most common kitten colds. Like a human cold, the viruses themselves can't be treated, but the symptoms can be managed, so get him to a vet before the snotty nose gets too severe. If your vet has prescribed medication, be sure and give it for as long as he's recommended. If you stop medicating too soon, you leave some of the stronger bacteria alive in your kitten's body. When they reproduce, they come back with a vengeance.
