Today's focus: Qwest turns up IP Centrex

By Jim Duffy

Qwest last week rolled out an IP Centrex service designed to
help enterprise firms migrate from traditional Centrex and PBX
services.

Called IP Centrex Prime, the service retains traditional Centrex
features, such as call forwarding, call waiting, and three-way
calling. It also supports more sophisticated telephony
applications used to monitor a company's multiple telephone
numbers, Qwest says.

Customers that migrate from traditional Centrex and PBX services
benefit from reduced equipment costs and simplified management
of moving and adding phone services, the carrier claims.

IP Centrex Prime is the second business VoIP service unveiled by
Qwest. Earlier this year, the carrier launched its national VoIP
service for business customers, Qwest OneFlex.

Qwest says it currently carries 1.8 billion minutes of VoIP
traffic per month over its national IP network.

IP Centrex Prime is available to large business customers in
Qwest's 14-state region. The carrier did not provide pricing for
the service.
