Research Associate


This 12-month position is administratively located in the School of Information
and Library Science.  The primary responsibilities of the Research Associate
will be:
- Conducting linguistic analysis of scientific literature to develop new
   approaches to  citation and relevance research.
- Developing extraction rules that employ basic linguistic concepts such as
   morphology and syntax for the purposes of identifying relationships among
   scientific articles.
- Identifying high quality linguistic literature relevant to document summarization
   and information extraction.
- Identifying high quality linguistic datasets from external sources (either
   public or commercial), for inclusion into research activities.
- Reviewing text collection activities and working closely with student research
   assistants to reconcile discrepancies.
- Collaborating on writing and editing manuscripts for publication.
- Developing new grant proposals, including identifying funding sources and
   designing continuing research programs.

Salary:  $26,000

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Linguistics, Masters preferred, including coursework related
to the duties in this position.
Minimum of two years experience with preparing grants and academic manuscripts
for publication.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in data gathering, management and analysis.
- Experience with morphology and syntax, and the application of linguistic
   techniques to textual analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills since the position will require working with a
   heterogeneous range of people including faculty from SILS and Chemistry,
   and both undergraduate and graduate students.
- The applicant should enjoy working with a team of people and be able to
   function independently.
- Excellent organizational skills and superior written and verbal communication.
- Experience with presentations or workshops.
