BUSH, KERRY DUEL OVER HEALTH CARE PLANS
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sen. John Kerry said Wednesday night that President Bush bears
responsibility for a misguided war in Iraq, lost jobs at home and mounting millions
without health care. Bush tagged his Democratic rival as a lifelong liberal bent on
raising taxes and government spending. "There's a mainstream in American politics and
you sit right on the far left bank," Bush said in the final debate of a close and
contentious campaign for the White House.

ELECTION 2004: SHEETS TO FACE JUDAH IN COMMISSION RACE AFTER ALL
Mark Sheets doesn't want to be on the Nov. 2 ballot, but he will be anyway. The Fort
Myers accountant signed up as a write-in candidate in the District 3 Lee County
commission race, closing the primary to all but Republican voters, then sent a letter
after the primary withdrawing his name. Some assumptions and accusations were he
signed up solely to close the primary to all but Republican voters and to boost the
candidacy of Jake Slot, who was challenging incumbent Ray Judah for the position.

ELECTION 2004: DEMOCRATS' VP NOMINEE TO VISIT FORT MYERS MONDAY
Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards will be in Southwest Florida on
Monday, hosting a town hall meeting in the Fort Myers area. Arrangements on when and
where Edwards will appear have not been made final, said Matt Gobush, the
Kerry-Edwards campaign coordinator in Fort Myers, on Wednesday.

FGCU EDUCATORS FIGHT FOR QUALITY PRE-K
They want a quality prekindergarten program, not something resembling watered-down
child care. Florida voters approved universal prekindergarten for all 4-year-olds by
the fall of 2005, just about 10 months away, but so far state lawmakers haven't agreed
on how to run the new program, who can teach it, or how many youngsters should be in a
classroom.

STUDY: COLLIER MUST CHANGE TAX STRUCTURE
If Collier County leaders don't change their ways, the county could see a significant
drop in its revenues in the next decade. And that could force the county to cut back
on services that residents have come to expect. These are some of the key findings of
a fiscal stability study commissioned by the Economic Development Council of Collier
County. The study was conducted by Anderson Economic Group LLC based in East Lansing,
Mich.

NEW YORK TRANSPLANT THINKS NAPLES DESERVES MORE PROFESSIONAL THEATER
It's a familiar story. Visitors come to Naples and fall in love with the area. They
work in the theater, or are used to living in an area with more culture, so they
decide to open a theater. They then run into two major obstacles: finding a place to
perform and finding an audience. This is Kristen Coury's story. Three months ago, she
and her husband, Laurent Chevalier, moved to Naples. "I'm a brand-new, loyal
Neapolitan," she says proudly.
