Today's focus: IT bad boys in Cannes

Cannes is where the bad boy movie idols hang out every year
during the film festival, but this week two of the IT industry's
own bad boys made headlines at the Etre Conference, which is
being held at the French resort - SCO's top litigator Darl
McBride and former CA Chairman and CEO Sanjay Kumar. McBride
told an audience of tech leaders and investors that they must
protect their intellectual property now or risk having their
business sacked by open souce-touting bandits. Meanwhile Kumar,
dodging questions about the indictment against him by a federal
grand jury for his part in the CA financial scandal, said he was
in town to tout his skills as a mentor for young technology
companies. "There's plenty of money running around out there,"
he said.

Back in the sunny part of our country, none of the attendees at
VORTEX 2004 in Santa Barbara had a kind word to say about the
Bush Administration's handling of the IT industry. But it's also
true that few in attendance were gushing about John Kerry.

well-organized strike by an outside force? Or an inside agitator
on a mindless rampage? No network is exempt from attack -
protected or not. The only difference between those spared
damage and those thrust into chaos will be the security
strategies prepared in advance. The solutions you implement now.
And the leadership you show ahead of coming threats.
