THE LETTER WE GOT TODAY

Xiao Yu and Lian Lian have lived together in the orphanage for several years. I asked Walt if he felt that they acted like they were sisters. Our daughter Xiao Yu is about a half year older than Lian.

I'll share a photo if you request one.

Paula,
The girls do act like sisteres. Lian Lian is very outgoing and a take charge person. Xaio Yu is much more shy at times, but does a good job. As far as asking the girls about school and the USA, I did have a long conversation with Mr. Li. In fact, we were strolling the beach of the China Sea while talking. Beautiful beach. The girls had an awesome time swimming and finding seashells. Right now they are cleaning the shells in the bathroom. I just took a second load of laundry across the street and made a quick stop to the bank.

Back to my conversation with Mr. Li. He told me the girls are looking forward to life in the USA. They both realize the difficulties ahead, but also realized the difficulties in their own home country. Xaio Yu told him that she has always wanted a family. She wanted to be be adopted. It makes me very sad to think that her real family left her. Lian Lian had an even more difficult situation. She was rejected three times. She was given to some friends of the family. Then, at age four, she was given back to her real family. At age seven, her real family abandoned her a second time. Truly sad and tearfuil stories for both. These girls have been through a lot. Mr Li says they are very happy to be in a family. You can see them both beaming at times. As the communication barrier breaks down, it will be easier for everyone.

Mr. Li also stated that he thinks these girls would be deined as a little "wild". For Chinese culture, probably. For USA, I don't think so. These girls just need loving families and some solid structure in their lives. I wouldn't doubt that they may think they could be abandoned again. It will be a great day when Xaio Yu realizes that we will be her parents no matter what.

I am very glad that Sarah and Zoey are here with me. They are a good comfort for Xaio Yu. They get along well.

I hope you continue to make things work at the clinic. I know it is hard for you to do everything there while we are here. I expect the house to be in shambles when we arrive home. We leave this Friday for Guangzhou. Consulate appointment is on Monday morning. So far, I have had all the necessary paperwork...what a relief. Wish us luck

Love

Walt
