I have always purchased A513/A500 tubing and A36
plate. Some of it comes in clean and arrow straight,
some comes in dog legged and nasty. T-slot looks good
on big budget projects, but is pretty pricey. The
process I have been involved with for custom machines
is;
Cut pieced and weld up frame.
Stress relieve.
Grind flat.
Then machine features.
My experience is that even with the cost of stress
relieving and grinding you will end up with a cheaper
frame at 4' x 4' An added bonus is the frame will be
heavier and as a result of the weight/mass be more
stable than a lighter machine.

Rob.
