You can use it for structures by typecasting it to (void *). Or any other type like ENUMS, binary array , etc can be used for this purpose. Typical application for memset is to initialize strcture with 0 or some predefined structures. Suppose structure S1 contains 2 int and 4 floats. Memcpy- U can pass structure (say s1) directly through socket, at the recving end, recv the buffer and do the memcpy into same structure directly by using memcpy. The memcpy will internally fill the structure (that means values for ints and floats will be directly filled out). Memcmp can be used in same context, so you need not write the program which will compare ints and floats.
