Jib halyard makes sense - we loosened the side stays a bit when we stepped the mast
and I got into the habit of cranking everything down tight. Thank you, Tom, and
thanks again to all the folks who have provided the helpful advice I've needed. (I've
got my rudder project going well so far, though I haven't tackled the delrin screws
yet).

On the H16, the tighter your jib halyard is, the more compression
there is on the mast support/bearing. Try loosening the jib halyard
slightly. I'm assuming that during your tacks you are releasing the
main sheet which not only makes for much easier tacks, but also
helps get the mast rotating. In light air, you definately don't
need the additional halyard tension.
