THE FOUNDATION

"Society's demands for moral authority and character increase as
the importance of the position increases." --John Adams

______----********O********----______
INSIGHT

"History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak
or timid." --President Dwight Eisenhower
"[S]o long as the people do not care to exercise their freedom,
those who wish to tyrannize will do so; for tyrants are active
and ardent, and will devote themselves in the name of any number
of gods, religious and otherwise, to put shackles upon sleeping
men." --Voltaire
"Political language...is designed to make lies sound truthful and
murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure
wind." --George Orwell
"I wouldn't call it fascism exactly, but a political system
nominally controlled by an irresponsible, dumbed down electorate
who are manipulated by dishonest, cynical, controlled mass media
that dispense the propaganda of a corrupt political establishment
can hardly be described as democracy either." --Edward Zehr
"I am concerned for the security of our great nation, not so much
because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious
forces working from within." --General Douglas MacArthur
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation
with the average voter." --Sir Winston Churchill

______----********O********----______
UPRIGHT

"Politicians have a field day misleading Americans who, as a result
of having been dumbed down by our education system, can't think,
reason or analyze." --Walter Williams
"Tyranny seldom announces itself. ... In fact, a tyranny may
exist without an individual tyrant. A whole government, even a
democratically elected one, may be tyrannical." --Joseph Sobran
"Our freedom is not being destroyed by terrorists, but by
ignorance, apathy and complacency. Our government schools are
to blame. ... Our dumbing down is not accidental but a very well
organized plan." --Kelly McGinley
"You want to appease the 'international community'? Sacrifice
Israel. Gradually, of course, and always under the guise of
'peace.' Apply relentless pressure on Israel to make concessions
to a Palestinian leadership that has proved (at Camp David 2000)
it will never make peace." --Charles Krauthammer
"Though neither Kerry nor his campaign 'scare-mail' acknowledge
it, no president can require compulsory military service.
Our Constitution charges Congress with the responsibility to
'raise and support armies.' Short of a cataclysmic attack on the
United States, no Congress is going to vote for conscription --
particularly since it would inevitably force our daughters to
fight." --Oliver North
"While many people are urging us to vote -- regardless of for whom,
for what, or for what reason -- there are very few urging us to
do what is far more important: Stop and think! Voting is not a
matter of personal expression but a serious responsibility for
choosing what course this country will take in the years -- and
decades -- ahead." --Thomas Sowell ++ "If a person is utterly
ignorant about matters of public policy, then he or she has a
solemn obligation to refrain from voting. The percentage of
people who fall into the utterly ignorant category is estimated
to be about 25 percent of eligible voters." --Mona Charen

______----********O********----______
EDITORIAL EXEGESIS

"UN ambassadors from several nations are disputing assertions
by...John Kerry that he met for hours with all members of the
UN Security Council just a week before voting in October 2002
to authorize the use of force in Iraq. An investigation by The
Washington Times reveals that while the candidate did talk for
an unspecified period to at least a few members of the panel, no
such meeting, as described by Mr. Kerry on a number of occasions
over the past year, ever occurred. At the second presidential
debate...Mr. Kerry said he was more attuned to international
concerns on Iraq than President Bush, citing his meeting with
the entire Security Council. 'This president hasn't listened.
I went to meet with the members of the Security Council in
the week before we voted. I went to New York. I talked to
all of them, to find out how serious they were about really
holding Saddam Hussein accountable.' ... But of the five
ambassadors on the Security Council in 2002 who were reached
directly for comment, four said they had never met Mr. Kerry.
The four also said that no one who worked for their countries'
UN missions had met with Mr. Kerry either. ... When reached for
comment last week, an official with the Kerry campaign stood by
the candidate's previous claims that he had met with the entire
Security Council. ... Asked whether the international body had
any records of Mr. Kerry sitting down with the whole council,
a UN spokesman said that 'our office does not have any record of
this meeting.' A U.S. official with intimate knowledge of the
Security Council's actions in fall of 2002 said that he was not
aware of any meeting Mr. Kerry had with members of the panel.
An official at the U.S. mission to the United Nations remarked:
'We were as surprised as anyone when Kerry started talking about
a meeting with the Security Council.' ... The revelation that
Mr. Kerry never met with the entire UN Security Council could be
problematic for the Massachusetts senator, as it clashes with one
of his central foreign-policy campaign themes -- honesty." --The
Washington Times

DEZINFORMATSIA

This week's "Propagandum Magnum" Award: "Eight days to go til
America elects a President, and disturbing news from Iraq is
again dominating the campaign. The White House acknowledged
today that a huge stockpile of ultra-high explosives is
inexplicably missing from an Iraqi weapons site. Senator John
Kerry called this a quote, 'great blunder' by President Bush and
his administration." --Dan Rather-biased **Those explosives were
missing in April 2003, before American troops even arrived.
This week's "Sociocrat Sycophant" Award: "If the government has
failed to deal with the flu vaccine shortage, how can American
voters have faith in the nation's public-health system -- and
its ability to deal with a bio-terror attack?" --Eleanor Clift
**What Section of the Constitution deals with flu shots again?
This week's "Blow Hard" Award: "To me the most interesting lie,
John O'Neill, that I would submit to you that you should answer,
is, you make a lying claim that John Kerry's antiwar activity
prolonged the amount of time that prisoners of war were held in
Vietnam. ... That's a lie, John O'Neill! ... Lies! ... That's
a lie! It's another lie! That's a lie! Absolute lie! You lie
in that book endlessly! ... Disgusting, lying book! ... It's a
pack of lies! You are unfit to publish! ... He just lied to you!
He spews out this filth! Point to his name on the report,
you liar! ... You just spew lies! ... I just hate the lies
of John O'Neill. I hate lies. It's not an argument; they're
proven lies. ... O'Neill's a liar, he's been a liar for 35 years
about this, and he's found other liars ... They lied! ... They're
lying somewhere! ... Lies! Just tell me the initials, you liar!
Creepy liar! ... You are a liar who makes things up! ... You want
the lies! That's how you make your living, on lies!" --MSNBC
Political Analyst Lawrence O'Donnell, with a few professional
journalistic observations on the Swift Boat Vets' book
>From the European Psychosis Files: "The world will endure four
more years of idiocy, arrogance and unwarranted bloodshed, with no
benevolent deity to watch over and save us. John Wilkes Booth,
Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley Jr. -- where are you now that
we need you?" --Charlie Booker, The Guardian

______----********O********----______
THE DEMO-GOGUES

>From the Eco-theology Files: "Honor the solitude and beauty of
wilderness areas and our National Parks by keeping snowmobiles
and jet skis out of Yellowstone.... John Kerry will reinstate the
Clinton Administration's phase-out of noisy and direct snowmobiles
that have been overrunning some of our most precious lands,
including Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National
Park." --John Kerry for President website ++ This week's "Limited
Candle Power" Award: "It is so important that we preserve our
rural way of life.... And that includes, making sure...that your
right, your ability to hunt and fish is protected; making sure
that you can go in the national parks and national forests and
ride on a snowmobile." --John Edwards **Memo to the No. 2 John:
Visit JohnKerry.com for your position on this issue.
This week's "Periplaneta Americana" Award: "[American media
organizations] have been cowed, because they didn't want to be
unpatriotic. There has been a lack of inquisitive journalism.
In fact, it's hard to think of a major medium in the United States
that has been objective and fair and balanced, and critical when
criticism was deserved." --Jimmy Carter, who was awfully upset with
the media for being critical of him during the Iran hostage affair
This week's "Primo-Prevaricator" Award: "[Republicans] are trying
to scare the undecided voters about Senator Kerry and they are
trying to scare the decided voters away from the polls." --Bill
Clinton, on the stump with John Kerry
This week's VC Award: "With the same energy...I put into going
after the Viet Cong and trying to win for our country, I pledge
to you I will hunt down and capture or kill the terrorists before
they harm us. And we will wage a war on terror that makes America
proud and brings the world to our side." --John Kerry, promising
to lose the war on terror
>From the "Village Matriarch" Files: "If we were living in another
country and we had the president of the country and his brother
controlling one of the biggest provinces or states, we would...have
some doubts about whether, given their track record, they really
believe in democracy." --Hillary Clinton

______----********O********----______
VILLAGE IDIOTS

This week's "Character-Deficit Disorder" Award: "Well, you know,
I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has
a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that she's
ever had a real job -- I mean, since she's been grown up." --Maria
Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry ++ Then the apology:
"I had forgotten that Mrs. Bush had worked as a school teacher and
librarian, and there couldn't be a more important job than teaching
our children. ...[I] am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her
important work in the past." --Teresa Heinz Kerry
This week's "Village Victimitis" Award: "Listen up. If [Bush] is
re-elected, he will appoint a Clarence Thomas clone and reverse
Roe versus Wade." --Actress, Christine Lahti
This week's "Village Glitterati" Award: "[Y]ou know, the
people, like, in the very right wing of this party, of these
Republicans...the Jerry Falwell element, if they get any more
power, you [gay] guys are going to be living in some state by
yourselves. ... I think that as Bush will, if Bush gets elected,
he will put in new Superior Court [sic] judges, and these guys
are not going to want to see gay pride week." --Cher
This week's "Village Ignorati" Award: "The best part to me in
the entire debate was when John Kerry said we have to pass a
global test before we enter into a war. And you see George Bush
got all nervous because frankly the word 'test' terrifies him.
He never passed one at Harvard or Yale, but whatever." --Rosie
O'Donnell, who dropped out of Boston University after 1 year,
on President Bush, who has an MBA from Harvard
>From the "culture commissar" crowd: "Witches with pointy noses
and things like that are not respective symbols of the Wiccan
religion and so we want to be respectful of that." --Karen Hansen,
spokesman for Washington State Puyallup school district on the
decision to cancel Halloween celebrations in school **At least,
we know "witch" religion these folks adhere to!

SHORT CUTS

"No, it turns out Saddam Hussein didn't have weapons of mass
destruction. And how crazy does that make Saddam? All he had
to do was tell Hans Blix, 'Look anywhere you want. Look under
the bed. Look beneath the couch. Look behind the toilet tank in
the third presidential palace on the left, but keep your mitts off
my copies of Maxim.' And Saddam could have gone on dictatoring
away until Donald Rumsfeld gets elected head of the World Council
of Churches. But no..." --P.J. O'Rourke
"You get the sense that if George W. Bush said it was sunny,
John Kerry would rise in indignation to speak about how a 10
percent possibility of light rain proves that George W. Bush has
not been honest with the American people." --John Podhoretz
"John Kerry's problem is that he can make a cigar store Indian
look like he's overacting." --Argus Hamilton
"While the people of Afghanistan are celebrating their first
democratic election and the Iraqis are taking their first steps
to democracy, the great thinkers in the Democrat Party are
still polishing up their conspiracy theories about the war to
liberate Iraq. There's no consensus position, but the Democrats
are pretty sure the real reason we went to Iraq was one of the
following: Bush family's connections to the Saudis; Halliburton;
the Carlyle Group; something about the Texas Rangers needing more
left-handed pitching; the neoconservatives; the Straussians; oil;
the Jews; oily Jews." --Ann Coulter

NIGHTLINES

David Letterman.... "Top Signs You've Purchased A Fake Flu Shot:"
The doctor looks a lot like the guy who hooked up your illegal
cable box; You see the nurse filling the syringe with Gatorade;
Instead of FDA, the vaccine was approved by FTD; The "clinic"
is in a booth at Red Lobster; It has a 100 percent guarantee
from physician "Dr. Pepper"; This morning you had a fever of 183
degrees; Label lists the active ingredient as nougat; For another
39 cents, doctor offers to super-size it.

Jay Leno.... In an interview in USA Today, Teresa Heinz Kerry said
she didn't think Laura Bush, who was a public school librarian
for nine years, had ever held a "real job." Let me tell you
something -- if you're a librarian married to George W. Bush,
there is no harder job on Earth. .... Both candidates are trying
to scare voters for votes in the last weeks of the campaign.
And they're doing a pretty good job. Voters are petrified
that on November 2nd they're actually going to have to pick
one of these guys. What's scarier than that? .... The town of
Bloomfield, New Jersey, was holding a lottery to determine who
would get a flu shot. It's terrible. And the winner doesn't even
get the flu shot all at once. It's injected very slowly, once a
year for 25 years. .... The Kerry campaign announced today they
will have "10,000 lawyers at the polls in battle ground states."
10,000 lawyers. Well, let's hope you don't slip and fall on the
sidewalk outside a polling place. You could be buried alive in
business cards.
