... life. A 1 msec jitter on start time may be OK in one case but completely
unacceptable in another. I know one system with a 50 usec window (every 12.5
msec) to receive a message otherwise it will go into "safe mode" and take
several minutes to recover. We don't even TRY to feed that data with a
software interrupt handler - we set up the transfer in advance and use a
hardware trigger to send the data. In the case of missing a deadline, the
action still should be application specific. --Mark ... - Thurs,

Problem with JEWL - 3 new
----------------------------------
I downloaded Jewl and installed in on a Win XP machine. The instructions
suggest compiling and linking sketch using the command gnatmake sketch. The
linking phase fails on the command line option -lwinmm. I get a message saying
.. ld: cannot open -lwinmm: No such file or directory. Other purely text
based programs compile just fine with my current installation, so its
something to do with Jewl. I beleive I'm running gnat 3.15, and the gcc part
reports its own vesion as 2.8.1. Using Borland's winmm.lib didn't work.... -

Parameter return when exceptions occur - 2 new
----------------------------------
The "variable lenght strings thread" has touched on the case of using Ada.Text_
Io.Get_Line with a string on the last line of a file that does not contain a
file terminator. In this case an End_Error exception is raised. Question:
when the End_Error exception occurs, is anything known about the value of the
parameters to Get_Line? Does the procedure still return meaningful values? I
suspect it is compiler dependent, since I didn't manage to find any
explanation in the LRM. Steve (The Duck) ... - Thurs, Oct 28 2004 8:02

PDA's - all new
----------------------------------
... Besides JGNAT, which works well on most PDA's (the trick is to get a JVM :-
) there now is MGNAT for PDA's as well. There will be a tutorial by Martin
Carlisle in the next SigAda conference in Atlanta. I have already
successfully ported (well copied and compiled :-) some applications on the
iPAQ. It integrates even into the Visual Studio .Net so you can debug the Ada
code as well on the emulated PDA. For this, MGNAT generates debug info into
the .IL files There should be an official release soon ... - Fri, Oct 29
