WHITE HOUSE RACE MAY COME DOWN TO OHIO
President Bush and challenger John Kerry sweated out a tension-packed conclusion to
the race between a hard-charging Democrat and a Republican incumbent battered by war
in Iraq and joblessness at home. Ohio loomed as this year's Florida, the decisive
state, with Kerry's options dwindling. Ceding nothing, Kerry dispatched running mate
John Edwards to tell supporters in Boston: "We've waited four years for this victory.
We can wait one more night."

COMPUTER GLITCH HOLDS UP COLLIER VOTE COUNTING
A computer glitch held up Collier County election officials from counting votes for
more than three hours on election night. "This had nothing to do with the iVotronics
(voting machines)," said Gary Beauchamp, deputy assistant supervisor of elections,
during a 10:15 p.m. press conference Tuesday. He explained that all 96 Collier voting
precincts had sent in the day's results, but during the tabulation process, there was
a problem because "the file refreshes to zero and it did not refresh."

ZOO INITIATIVE PASSES, COUNTY GETS CHANCE TO SAVE GEM
They whooped like birds and roared like lions as they learned Tuesday night that
voters approved a referendum aimed at saving Naples' only zoo. Tuesday was a day of
reckoning for David Tetzlaff and members of his family, who have operated the zoo at
Caribbean Gardens for more than 35 years. He and other zoo supporters fought for votes
to the end. And they celebrated victory late Tuesday at the Hilton Naples & Towers.

BUSH LASSOS A MAJORITY OF THE VOTE IN COLLIER, LEE
Voters in Collier and Lee counties delivered President George W. Bush a powerful
victory Tuesday night, handing him two of the 67 counties in electoral-vote rich
Florida. Bush took 65 percent of the vote or 82,493 votes to Kerry's 34 percent or
43,277 in Collier County. With 197 of 225 precincts reporting in Lee County, Bush
landed 114,153 votes or 59 percent, compared to Kerry's 76,874 or 39.8 percent.

CONNIE MACK READY TO FOLLOW DAD'S FOOTSTEPS TO CONGRESS
Southwest Florida is likely sending another Connie Mack to Congress, this time Connie
Mack IV, who looked to have taken the 14th District by late Tuesday night. With 87
percent of District 14 precincts reporting as of press time, Mack had taken 67.3
percent of the vote, or 193,194 votes, to Democrat Robert Neeld's 32.4 percent, or
92,527 votes. District 14 takes in all of Lee County and coastal Collier and Charlotte
counties.

PERSPECTIVE:

EDITORIAL: ELECTION DAY 2004 -- LONG YEAR, LONG NIGHT AND NO MAJOR SURPRISES
The road to Tuesday's general election was a long and grueling one for Florida.
Starting with municipal elections in February, we later endured "battleground state"
status for hurricanes and presidential campaigning. Who knew that come Tuesday getting
the results would mean a long and grueling wait for Collier and Lee voters?

BUSINESS:

WCI REPORTS STRONG QUARTERLY EARNINGS
Bonita Springs-based WCI Communities Inc.'s third-quarter earnings were strong, but
not what it expected three months ago.
Like a number of Floridians, the hurricanes adversely affected the company's profits.
Tuesday, the luxury home builder reported a 67.8 percent increase in profits and 63.2
percent increase in earnings per diluted share.

NEAPOLITAN:

AFTERNOON DELIGHT: TAKING TEA IS STEEPED IN HISTORY, AND POPULAR AROUND NAPLES
"For the full effect, your little finger has got to be up in the air and you should
use the word 'darling' a lot," Kate Okuniewicz jokingly remarks, carefully setting a
bone china teapot down alongside a platter of homemade scones, Devonshire cream and
strawberry preserves. The ladies giggle before diving in.
