NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORK WORLD FUSION

By Jeff Caruso

Federated identity is one of the toughest challenges in IT
today. Under a federated identity system, I could authenticate
myself to one system and then have that authentication passed
around to partners so that I could access the partners' systems.
Sounds simple enough - but early adopters say the trust inherent
in federated identity is a huge issue. And by that I mean a
legal issue, often.

Tarantella spins a thin client Web on Linux

Tarantella is going up against Citrix, the 800-pound gorilla
when it comes to accessing centralized applications through PCs.
That may be why it has struggled. It has a plan, however, to get
back on track: align with IBM and go after Linux environments,
rather than Microsoft Windows environments. Oh, and return to
profitability next year.

Patent suit takes aim at Cisco routers, switches

A Miami Beach, Fla., company Tuesday sued Cisco for alleged
patent infringement, charging the networking giant with stealing
its routing technology.

E-voting backers claim successful election; critics continue to
be concerned

Critics of electronic voting security conceded Wednesday that
the number of glitches reported with e-voting machines likely
didn't have an impact on the U.S. presidential race.

Today on Layer 8, no patching required:

First felony spam convictions handed down; experts say we don't
want cash for Christmas; play video games, lose weight; and
India says outsourcing will continue with Bush win; and all this
today and more at your home for not-just-networking news.
