NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORK WORLD FUSION

By Jeff Caruso

When you take new, high-powered blade servers with high heat
output and massive cooling fans and put them into older data
centers, they could start failing - but not for the reason you
might suspect. It may be that their fans are sucking in zinc
whiskers. What's a zinc whisker, you ask? Read this week's A
Wider Net to find out.

Feature: E-mail at a crossroads

"What is at stake is no less than the protection and
preservation of the Internet as we know it," says an ITU
adviser, and I don't think he was overstating the case. He was
talking about e-mail - specifically, the threats from spam,
phishing and viruses that are chipping away at one of the most
significant technologies of our time.

Co-chairman departs Novell

Novell Co-chairman Chris Stone - whom many assume was the
heir-apparent to Novell Chairman and CEO Jack Messman - has left
the company. Stone rejoined Novell in March 2002 and is credited
with Novell's Linux strategy.

practice aimed at helping enterprises migrate to a
service-oriented architecture.
