Title: XP SP2 FailSafe Guide: 99% Complete
Category: Windows
by Dennis Faas, infopackets editor
http://www.infopackets.com

This is just a quick note to let you all know the progress of my fail-safe
XP Service Pack 2 installation guide.

As of this moment, the guide is complete in so far as content is concerned
(at roughly 75 pages). I spent the majority of this week going step-by-step
through the eBook and applied the material to my Laptop computer, while
making a number of revisions.

> Streamline your Windows PC with a single click!

------------------------------------------------------------

Just as dust accumulates on something new and shiny over time, unnecessary
data and "leftover files" gradually take up space on every Windows machine.
As the garbage collects, it clogs the system and performance begins to
deteriorate.

Like a professional cleaner, the Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite knows
exactly what kind of dirt to look for, where to find it, and how to get rid
of it efficiently.

So, how can WinOptimizer streamline your PC? Answer:

Title: OE has removed access to unsafe attachments?

Gazette Reader Susan C. writes:

" Dear Dennis,

First I want to say that I love reading your newsletter because you always
have very interesting topics. My question today is in regard to Outlook
Express blocking access to my email attachments. As per your instruction, I
have disabled the option in Tools -> Options -> Security tab -> 'do not
allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.'
However, Outlook Express still blocks access to some of my files (.PDF, for
example). I don't know what else I can do to get around this problem? Any
help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. "

> How many potentially disastrous errors are lurking inside your PC?

------------------------------------------------------------

--> Fact: Over time, programs are installed and uninstalled to a Windows
PC, and the System Registry becomes bloated with incorrect and outdated
information.

--> Fact: Many of the attributes in the Registry point to critical system
files, called .DLL files.

--> Fact: All too often, poorly designed programs make erroneous changes to
.DLL references in the Registry. This can cause Windows to behave
erratically, produce strange error messages, slow down, or even crash
spontaneously.

--> Fact: Registry Mechanic is a free download and can resolve all of these
issues in only a few simple mouse clicks.

How does it work? Answer:

Pear PC

Emulate PowerPC on an x86 machine. If you're brave and have the time, run
OS X under Windows. PearPC is an architecture-independent PowerPC platform
emulator capable of running most PowerPC operating systems. The following
operating systems were tested and run (to some extent) in PearPC (ie. as
clients): Mac OS X 10.3: Runs well with some caveats. Mandrake Linux 9.1
for PPC installer: Runs well. Mandrake Linux 9.1 for PPC after
installation: Hard to boot. Runs very well afterwards. Darwin for PPC: Runs
well. OpenBSD for PPC: Crashes while booting (accesses PCI in an
unsupported way). NetBSD for PPC: Crashes while booting. AIX for PPC: Some
people ask about that..
