A group made up of the Richardson's and the Bowden/Edelen family has gone to adopt our thirteen year old daughter and the Richardson's daughter. For many years Xiao Yu and Lian have lived the the Shao Wu City orphanage. It is by the grace of the SWI director that over the last six months we've email contact with our girls. We've also sent many pictures and two gift packages. Last week we sent a detailed email (in Chinese) to Mr Z (the SWI director) letting the girls know that their parents/families were coming to get them. We were told that the girls were excited to meet their families and the the caretakers at the orphanage had "going away" celebrations for them. I think that the preparation for our daughters' journey was well planned by the staff. Xiao Yu and Lian had photos and letters from us, and they know where they will fit in their new families. Xiao Yu will be the oldest of six children and Lian will be the younger sister to Robin (who is 14). The travelers left yesterday morning. They are in Hong Kong right now. Dolores & Bill (Lian's parents), Robin (14), Sarah (11), Zoey (10), Walt (Xiao Yu's father) and Grandpa Edelen are traveling all together. Walt will send e-mail messages. I asked him to write everyday.... he gave me the look like "you are crazy" - so I begged that he write at least every other day. Last September our daughters, Walt and I adopted our now two year old daughter Beth Anne. From Hong Kong the group will go to Fujian Province. They meet with the girls on the 10th (China Date) of October. After the two Shao Wu girls are with their family members, they will travel to GZ for official paperwork. While there they will stay in the Victory Hotel. As a group they will then fly to Beijing for the historical tour of the city. Walt, Sarah and Zoey have some beginner skills in Chinese, and I hope they they are able to use some of what they learned.
