Well, the segregation issue is a tough one if you are dealing with nude bathing. As far as I have observed, all co-ed hot springs that are run by municipalities require bathing suits. When you are dealing with nude bathing, I am not surprised that the bath houses are segregated. Just look at our elections to see why co-ed nude bathing (at the county level) would not be condoned.
Don't get me wrong, I am a happy little nudist whenever possible, but my experience shows me that it is private organizations that offer co-ed nude facilities. And yes there are free hot springs such as Saline. But they aren't cleaned and maintained by the county. They are maintained by volunteers that keep them clean. It's a different creature. Kathleen, I know you don't need free. Neither do I. And I also do my share of cleanup, etc. However, this place is easily accessable by the handicapped, has (soon had) 24 hour access, and didn't cost anyone a dime to enjoy. I, for one, would have loved to see that continue. Tecopa is a place of desert rats and characters. In the winter its seniors and snowbirds. All the locals wanted was a chance to control their resources. And the county reps did not even give them a token "nod" of consideration. As it stands, the cleanup has begun. And the preposed fee schedule is out in the world. I will post the report from Hummingbird.
