Wiki on Ada - all new
----------------------------------
... Well I don't think that anybody else has send a few thouthent C++ source
files thru Get_Line. As you might know: The main part of AdaCL is a text
filter framework. Mainly used for C++ source-file refactoring. When it comes
to string handling and Text_IO I have seen it all - event he most esoteric
bugs. I used the AdaCL text filters for more the a month before I noticed the
first file which did not have a last line any more. The bug is indeed very
sparce - bit it did happen in actual use. So With Regards... - Tues,

Adabrowse help - 3 new
----------------------------------
Hi, I bet several people is using AdaBrowse in this list. I'm having a
problem with the latest version 4.0.2 so if you can help... I'm trying to
generate the documentation for a large project. The source files are
scattered in several folders. The .adt files from ASIS are all in a single
folder. I'm giving this command: adabrowse -Ifolder1 -Ifolder2 -Tadtfolder -f
main.ads --all -o html/ Theoretically the --all switch should cause html
generation for all withed files (in gnatmake fashion?) but in my case I get a
single file ... - Tues, Nov 9 2004 7:30 am

String Pointer Bug - 2 new
----------------------------------
... Thank you. This is an excellent description. the only (fault) that I can
see is that it requires a copy operation (Y: aliased D := X). I wonder, do
you think that: Y: aliased D; for Y'Address use X'Address; is a viable
alternative (please note, I did not say GOOD alternative). In this simple
case, a copy serves no harm, other than some time. But if the data is large
the cost will certainly grow, perhaps to being unacceptable. Another (but
unattractive) alternative might be: type S1 is String(1..1);... - Tues,

Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) Ada Algorithm - all new
----------------------------------
... And so I do. Well, you've (and others) given several point of thought.
Quickly, let me address some: I learned: 1. There are no absolutes in
software. 2. Look at the issues before you solve the problem. In this light
there are some notes. Issue: The CPU is of limited capability in an embedded,
critical real-time environment. It is very important to conserve space and
save speed. The tendered solution seems to solve the issue without
compromising system integrity. Programmer optimization is often not required,
and... - Tues, Nov 9 2004 9:16 am

Thick Ada bindings to C Win32 - 4 new
----------------------------------
Hello, I have a program that uses Win32 serial I/O. Initially I found a set
of thick bindings to do this on the Internet, but I found a number of
limitations, and have been working to enhance it. One issue that still
remains though. I have the following functions: type Byte_Array is array (
Positive range <>) of Byte; procedure Get(Handle : in Handle_Type; Item : out
Byte; Done : out Boolean); procedure Put(Handle : Handle_Type; Item : in Byte_
Array); (hmmm... ideally the Get function should read in a Byte_Array, but...

Plugins/Dynamic Libraries - 9 new
----------------------------------
Greetings All, I am starting work on a plug in / dynamic library project with
ADA and just wanted to see if I had missed anything. I understand that this
is very compiler and OS dependent. Under Linux the accepted method is using
the DLibs bindings to dlopen etc http://www.cyberdanx.co.uk/ada95/dlibs.html
Under Windows the accepted method is using COM http://www.gnavi.org/gnatcom/
I found a post from last year which mentions: "there is a AdaPlugin project
for Linux that use Dynamic Glib Module functionnality" but did not provide... -

building a package -- newbie - 3 new

... The Ada standard does not say anything about file names for the source
code, so you can in principle name it completely as you like, but among GNAT
users the convention is to put the: * Specification in a file named as the
package name (in lower case, and with "." substituted with "-"), with ".ads
" appended. * Body in a file named as the package name (in lower case, and
