Why on Earth would anyone want to close down Salvation Mountain? While it might 
be a visual blight to some people or a visual Hallelujah Chorus to others, the 
clay he uses to cap the artwork could hardly be labeled a contaminant.

BTW, Kathleen, thanks for identifying Leonard. Several posts had mentioned him, 
but until your post, nobody had stated who he was.

I suspect the principal contaminants at the Slabs, if present in high enough 
quantities to constitute a hazard, are petroleum derivatives heavy metals, and 
chemical biproducts (e.g. trichloroethylenes, acetones, PCBs) from incineration 
or oxidation, all of which when waterborne are carried into subsurface levels 
by seepage. It requires drilled wells to determine the degree to which this 
occurs.
