A Remarkable President
—David Aikman
Americans who voted in decisive numbers for President Bush in the recent election must have had a good sense of why they did so. What they may not have realized is how remarkable this re-elected president really is.
In the first place, he has restored dignity, in a dramatic way, to the White House. There are today no "shirt-sleeve-pizza-sessions" amongst junior and senior staffers. Men wear suits, and women skirts, and are polite rather than profane in their conversation with each other.
Yet amidst the formality, this president is unassuming and humble, inviting his overnight guests in the White House--men and women of humble origins themselves. The president has even stopped to pray with some visitors.
Is he perfect or faultless? Of course not, but he is a man of conviction, courage, and determination. In today's world, those qualities go a long way.
