NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORK WORLD FUSION

By Jeff Caruso

Just because Microsoft and Novell settled their lawsuit doesn't
mean anything is really settled. Now that Novell has transformed
itself into a Linux company, it's back in Microsoft's
crosshairs. And before Novell users can move from NetWare to
Linux, Microsoft wants to get them to move from NetWare to
Windows instead.

Sun takes page from Linux playbook with Solaris 10

Executives from Sun outlined their response to the growing
popularity of Linux, speaking at the launch on Monday of the
most significant update of the Solaris operating system in over
two years. Key to the effort is a plan to release Solaris under
an open source license with a new subscription pricing model, as
well as a software updating system similar to those used by
Linux vendors Red Hat and Novell.

ITIL best practices gain growing interest: survey

Interest in and adoption of the IT service management best
practices outlined by the Information Technology Infrastructure
Library continue to grow, according to a recent survey, which
shows the framework second only to in-house practices as the
method used most often to manage IT service processes.
