Here's what's new on StarNet, the online service of the Arizona Daily Star:

Iraq fighting takes 27 more lives
BAGHDAD - A suicide car bomber blasted an American convoy north of Baghdad and
U.S. troops battled insurgents west of the capital Wednesday as a wave of
violence across Iraq's Sunni Muslim heartland killed at least 27 people.

Kmart rolls dice, will buy Sears for $11B
NEW YORK - A resurgent Kmart is buying the once-dominant Sears department-store
chain in a surprising $11 billion gamble it is counting on to help both compete
better with Wal-Mart and other big-box retailers.

2003 El Tour de Tucson champ endures summer of frustration
Defending champion Phil Zajicek will be sweating and straining again Saturday,
trying to figure the best attack angles as El Tour de Tucson runs its course.
It is not easy fitting a couch through a front door. As much as he misses it,
Zajicek will not race in El Tour this year.

Ex-Kino pharmacy chief gets $4K fine
GLENDALE - The former pharmacy director at Kino Community Hospital was fined
$4,000 yesterday and barred from overseeing a pharmacy for one year. The
Arizona State Board of Pharmacy also approved a separate penalty of $111,802 to
be paid by Pima County, which until recently operated the South Side hospital.
The Pima County Board of Supervisors disclosed that fine last month amid a
scandal over missing drugs.

Nitos put their heads together
Banging their heads together, literally, was not a good idea for Juan "Nito"
Suazo and Norberto "Nito" Bravo. The first time the Tucson boxers met to spar,
Bravo bloodied Suazo's nose. The second time, the 139-pound Bravo, who is
about six pounds heavier and two inches taller, knocked Suazo down. So the
Nitos, probably Tucson's best professional boxers, instead will put their heads
together in the figurative sense.

Weary Wright State 'wishy-washy'
If the Wildcats were winded Tuesday, they have nothing on their opponent
tonight. Wright State, Arizona's second-round Preseason NIT foe at McKale
Center tonight, played all five starters at least 39 minutes in a 72-66
overtime win at Tulsa on Tuesday night.

Rare disorder: Painful problem took more than a year to diagnose
Her mom, Laurel Garland, a 33-year-old human resources specialist, innocently
thought her daughter had simply bitten her cheek. In reality, that day marked
the start of a nightmare, one that drew on for 1 1/2 years and eluded every
local health professional Laurel and her husband, Dave, could throw at it.

Jonesing for an adventure flick? It's here
Is "National Treasure" a worthy successor to the "Indiana Jones" films? Not at
all. The movie is predictable, corny and only slightly less believable than
Scott Peterson's defense lawyers. But you take what you can get in these
adventure-lean movie years. Read Phil Villarreal's review in Caliente.
