News: Oracle Switches to Quarterly Patch Rollups
Three months (and only one patch rollup) after saying it
would send out patches on a monthly basis, Oracle now is
saying the regular rollups will arrive quarterly. The next
one is due Jan. 18.

1. News: PeopleSoft ShareHolders May Sue Company Yet Again
A lawyer for PeopleSoft shareholders said a second lawsuit
may well be lodged as shareholders seek to nudge
PeopleSoft's board of directors past their resistance to
Oracle's $8.8 billion takeover offer. The board, true to
form, recently turned yet another cold shoulder to Oracle's
recently sweetened bid.

2. News: PeopleSoft's Largest Shareholders Split on Decision
Two of PeopleSoft's largest shareholders have made up their
collective minds on whether to tender shares to Oracle by
Friday's deadline. Capital Guardian Trust, which owns about
10 percent of PeopleSoft's outstanding shares, will tender
this week, whereas Private Capital Management is sitting on
its 9 percent of outstanding shares.

3. News: Oracle Ridicules PeopleSoft Directors
Co-President Safra Catz and Chief Financial Officer Harry
You were on the road this week, trying to push PeopleSoft
shareholders into tendering stock by Oracle's Friday
deadline. The execs charged PeopleSoft's board with letting
their emotions get in the way of good business sense.

4. Analysis: Oracle's Friday Deadline May Not Be the Finale
PeopleSoft shareholders have until midnight Friday to tender
shares, else Oracle will withdraw its current offer of $24
per share. But some say that even if Oracle drops the bid
come Saturday, the company may well be back, sniffing around
with a lower bid if PeopleSoft's value drops.

5. Analysis: How to Build the Databases of the Future
They've got to be able to handle sophisticated attacks,
corporate governance mandates, ever-more remote users,
limited bandwidth through intermittent connections, and be
able to deliver better analytics on top of it all. Check out
this report from eWEEK Labs on how next-generation
databases, using technologies such as grid, will tackle such
issues.
