But can't you get to Wainfleet/Thorpe Culvert from the East Fen
Catchwater and the Bell Water Drain - ie from the other end?
The EFC was very weedy in the 1980s when I tried (and gave up) but
subsequent road investigation revealed no obvious obstacles...
