I notice that we have lost at least 4ft on the width of the canal, under a new bridge at Stoke on Trent, to a very wide towpath. It is now single file only for boats.
The approach to Stoke bottom lock is a health & safety hazard. The drainage gullies are full of pigeon droppings and the towpath is a slimey slippery mess of bird droppings broken eggs & mud. There is water bubbling up through the concrete when the lock is being emptied. The rope ended up covered in aforesaid droppings and I was slipping & sliding hoping that I wasn't going to fall in it. ( Don't laugh)
Some spikes under the bridge would stop the birds activity and once the gullies are cleared it could improve.
