The Rochdale Canal will re-open in early June. You would incorporate the
whole of the Rochdale Canal and Huddersfield Narrow Canal into such an
extension of the Cheshire Ring, but you would need to miss out most of
the Ashton Canal

Look at my website (link below). There are "virtual cruises" of the
Rochdale, Huddersfield, Peak Forest and Bridgewater canals and Calder
and Hebble Navigation. That will give you an idea of how much passes
through built-up areas. The main built-up areas on the Rochdale Canal
are through Rochdale and from Failsworth to Manchester.
