Dave did  you do a lot of research for a new mooring or just apply at Market
Drayton?  If you did look further, what was your general impressions  about
the availability of moorings?  We are currently looking out for  alternative
moorings, as we are no longer happy (after 22 years) with our  present site and
will be searching actively as we cruise this summer.
We  saw some off line moorings between Norbury and High Offley this spring
advertised as vacant, but they seemed a bit open to the prevailing  winds.
They were 'field' moorings with no facilities, but seemed far  enough away from
civilization to avoid troublemakers, and we didn't  investigate price etc.
Shroppie is such a favourite cut though  ..............
We are planning the London trip this year, but will no  doubt see you around
later in the year as we love the  Shroppie.
No research at all! I started mooring at Braunston nine years ago when I
bought Raven. At that time I was living in the Thames Valley and working in
London. I used the boat as my weekend retreat and went direct to it from the
office on Friday evenings. I moved to Everdon, about 8 miles and twelve minutes
drive from Braunston, three and a half years ago. I retired two and a half
years  ago. Now having all the time in the world to go boating, I have found that
I am  using the boat less due to it being on the doorstep and knowing all the
canals  do-able in a weekend like the back of my hand.

A couple of weeks ago, partner Janet suggested I move moorings. The  Shroppie
is my favourite canal. I could only recollect one marina in the mid  Shroppie
area, the one at Market Drayton. I can't think of any other moorings  that
provide electrickery, water and convenient pump out, gas and coal in  the area.
(Second thoughts, there are about a dozen on line moorings so equipped  at
Norbury junction). A quick search on Waterscape gave me the name and  telephone
number of Tom's moorings. Rang up and by chance a 60 foot mooring was
available from 1st June. Security seems OK as it is closely overlooked by  houses,
several of which are owned by boaters.  Visited the marina last  weekend and
that's that.

There is a mooring at Braunston suitable for a boat up to 55 feet now
available. It is still mine until the end of August so if anyone is  interested give
me a call on 01327-361280 to discuss. I'm off on the boat from  Saturday for
a couple of weeks.

Regards,

Dave
