Some do, some don't. My last one (Orange Mobile Office Card GC75e) did 
but I recently upgraded my laptop to the latest Dell Inspiron and it 
doesn't take PCMCIA cards! The new format is not backwards compatible 
and no-one makes a data card for the new slot yet :-(

I'm now using the built in Bluetooth on the laptop to connect to a Nokia 
phone which sits in the window (or occasionally on the front deck if 
coverage is poor.)
