Also, when the BHP is measured on a brake dynamometer by manufacturers 
of modern cars (for example)it is measured on an engine stripped of 
all parasitic loads such as alternators, power steering pump and 
sometimes even water pump (the cooling water is supplied under 
pressure from the mains water supply into the dyno cell). Thus the BHP 
quoted by car manufacturers is significantly greater than that 
obtained at the road wheels after all the parasitic loads and 
transmission losses.
