Day 2 - Sunday 25th June 2006

It was a restless night, as the tide flowing at 4 mph pulled debris into,
around, and under the boat. It was only about 04:00 when it started to
slacken off did I get some serious sleep, but by 05:10 the tide was running
up fast enough to pull the rudder over, and woke me up again. The alarm was
set for 05:30, and I dosed until this happened.

We were off for 05:45, and had a good run up the river. A narrowboat was
leaving Stockwith just as we passed, but they were soon left behind. We
reached Cromwell Lock at 11:43, but the gates were shut. We didn't have to
wait long before the paddles were opened, along with a very confusing Red
and Green light both on at the same time. Since the gates opened, and
nothing was inside, I think it means proceed with caution. Dad had called
Cromwell about 15 minutes earlier to let him know we were coming, but
eventually we found out that the boat that overtook us near Torksey had told
the lock keeper that we were along way back. He started to fill the lock,
and then we appeared around the corner!

We ended up having to wait for a narrow boat at Newark Nether, which had
left Cromwell just before us, and decided to have lunch at 13:30 in Newark.

After filming Dad steer the narrowboat through the bridge, and past the
castle look like the opening titles of Rosy and Jim, we had a good run up
the river, arriving the top of Stoke lock at 7pm. We moored on the end of
the floating pontoon on the end of the lock wall.
