Day 6 - Thursday 29th June 2006 A rattle at the rear door at 1:30am woke us both up. I ran to the door, and could see a light outside. I shouted "Is there someone there?", but kept the door closed, never knowing how desperate this person was. I could not hear anything, and opened the hatch. I could not see anything, so grabbed a torch but nothing seen. I didn't get to sleep for sometime afterwards. In 30 years of boating I don't ever remember anyone getting on the boat while we were onboard.
At 09:30, after loads of passing boats, and an approaching lawn mower I got up. Dad stay in bed until after the lawn mower had finished the grassy area around the mooring. We set off at 10:45 before any more boats went past our way. A good run up the locks to Stoke, meeting another boat coming down all the way to Stoke, where we managed to get behind someone. They were working ahead of us, so we only had to wait for the lock to empty. The weather today has been very sunny. It was quite hot as well at times, but the light wind took the edge off it. We arrived at Stoke top lock in a glorious orange glow of the setting sun. We continued to bridge 117 (arriving at 20:00) to go to the chippy, but unfortunately it was no more. Dad got on his folding bike, and after visiting B&Q (to get a valve to stop the engine from warming up the radiators) went to the McDonalds nearby. --- Mike Askin nb.
