I was fascinated to read Richard Fairhurst's article in the
July edition of WW regarding old Waterways guides. I have
a set of the first edition blue books but haven't looked at
them for years (thanks, Richard for bringing back the
memories! - and prompting me to dig them out of the attic).

In recent years I have told several friends that the visitor
moorings in Llangollen used to be immediately east of
bridge 45 but nobody believed me. Thanks to your article
I can now show them book 1, or the photo on page 107
of WW which clearly shows two moored boats.
I know the canal at that point does not now look wide
enough for boats to pass. I was wondering whether the
canal might have been narrowed slightly at that place
during bank strengthening works? Also typical boats
today are more than twice the length they were in the 60's.

Does anyone else remember that wonderful mooring
overlooking the town?

Phil
