I keep looking. I had a look at an Electrolux unit like Julian's at the Boat 
and Caravan show at Brum, but is quite big, and looks to much like a caravan 
bolt on unit - a bit out of place on a narrowboat.

I saw one at Crick however  - Dometic? maybe, they did fridges as well - 
that used a 240v compressor (but I guess there is no reason why a 12v one 
could not be used), and used water for the cooling - which would require 
more holes in the hull. Was very quiet though.

I currently have a standard house type on which runs on 240 volts, and uses 
air for cooling, so quite noisy. It doesn't have a timer, so I have to turn 
it on manually. I think it will run on my inverter, but it's over 1kW so 
would need the engine running.
