Well, engines are not SUPPOSED to be run after 8am, however they can be if 
required. I was going to ask if they wouldn't mind not running their engine, 
if they did, I was just going to ask them to ensure it was out of gear. I 
would not have bothered at all if they were just running the engine, but 
since they got me out of bed anyway....

I may be wrong, but I don't think BW stipulate the condition of the bank 
with regards to running in gear. The bottom is nearly always clay puddle 
anyway, so could be washed away.

While charging in Royal Docks, one of the rules was no running in gear, 
however with a concrete wall, and the bottom over 15 feet away (I never did 
reach it with the pole), I didn't think it would make any odds for a 
narrowboat.
