Steady boating rather than all day and all night style means you take
about a week to get from Northampton to Peterborough. On that basis,
it's probably not worth going through to the Great Ouse - if Salter's
Lode is busy, you may have to wait a day to get through, and the best
bits of the Gt Ouse itself are further upstream. If you do go through,
try the Wissey - it's beautiful, and the entrance is right by Denver
Sluice.
You need an EA key to work the Nene Locks, plus plenty of energy! The
river gets better and better as you go downstream.
We've got some notes of our trip this summer, in the form of mods to
the Imray guides. As soon as they've been tidied up, I'll put them in
the files section.
