Over the last few months there have been problems with leaking gates on the new boat lift at Strépy-Thieu in Belgium that has resulted in some restrictions on the opening hours of the lift. However, it has recently been announced that further problems have been found that requires urgent attention.
The overhead pulleys in the machinery room are over stressed due to a design cock-up and need to be strengthened at a cost of 6m Euros. The work is expected to last 30 months but it is hoped that one of the lifts will always be kept in a working state during the duration of the work. The company responsible for the cock-up is no longer in existence and therefore the cost of 6m Euro is being born by the Walloon Government. -- Regards Michael Clarke Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://users.skynet.be/sky34301/ Yahoo!
